Sodertalje Katthem
Cat Shelter in Södertälje, Stockhlom län.
The cat shelter, founded in spring 2002 as part of the Swedish Association for the Rights of Animals, operated from a villa in Södertälje that housed 50–70 cats and later included an outdoor yard. In 2004, the shelter successfully rehomed 204 cats, but that same year learned the villa would be demolished at the end of December to make way for a municipal parking lot.

How to adopt?
Our platform does not directly assist with the adoption process. We simply provide information to help you more easily search for animal shelters. All adoption procedures must be handled through the respective organizations. This ensures we do not interfere with their operations. If you need any assistance, feel free to contact us!
Visit and Express of Interest
First arrive at the cat shelter during the visiting hours, there will be staff on site. During visiting hours, staff can guide you, answer questions, and introduce you to cats. If you’re interested, you can submit a non-binding expression of interest. The adoption group reviews all applications and chooses the most suitable home, so there’s no guarantee you’ll get a specific cat. Cats are only adopted as outdoor pets if the area is deemed safe.
Age requirment of adopting
Only adults may adopt cats. Because cats live 15–20 years, people over 70 cannot adopt cats under 5 years old, and those over 65 cannot adopt kittens under 8 months. Adopters over 70 must also have a younger co-signer (under 60) who agrees to take responsibility if needed. These rules ensure the cats’ best interests.
Then what?
When the cat is picked up, a binding agreement is signed between the cat shelter and the adopter, in which the adopter undertakes to care for the cat well and to meet its needs, and NOT to euthanize, relocate or otherwise change the cat's life without first contacting the cat shelter. Please note that the adopter must register the cat with the Swedish Board of Agriculture. This is a legal requirement since 2023-01-01 and something the cat shelter cannot do.
Adoption fee?
