The embryo for Kattvärnet arose in the spring of 1999. With years of getting preparation, the Kattvärnet's cat home opened on August 30, 2003 and since then it has of course also been a lot of work, many volunteers have come and gone, the board has changed a lot. With the helps of volunteers and cat's lovers, Kattvärnet has even today placed over 600 cats.

How to adopt?
Our platform does not directly assist with the adoption process. We simply provide information to help you more easily search for animal shelters. All adoption procedures must be handled through the respective organizations. This ensures we do not interfere with their operations. If you need any assistance, feel free to contact us!

Those interested in adopting a cat are welcome to email us or book an appointment by phone.
Age requirment of adopting
Only adults may adopt cats. Because cats live 15–20 years, people over 70 cannot adopt cats under 5 years old, and those over 65 cannot adopt kittens under 8 months. Adopters over 70 must also have a younger co-signer (under 60) who agrees to take responsibility if needed. These rules ensure the cats’ best interests.
Then what?
During your visit, you’ll have the chance to see all the cats currently residing at Kattvarnet and ask any questions you may have about adopting a cat. When you have found a cat who captures your heart, you can inform the volunteers on shift, who will discuss our adoption policy with you and help you to fill out a reservation form.
Adoption fee?
All cat, 3500 SEK, ID marked, vaccinated, neutered and dewormed before moving.
Kattvarnet do not adopt out kittens as single cats. There must be a younger cat companion in the new home or the two of them are adopted out together. In some cases, the kittens are only adopted out with their sibling or another kitten at the earliest 14 weeks of age.
